Debra, Barn owls typically grow up to 20 inches tall, but that's normally the girls, the guys only get to 13-15 inches. wingspan is almost 4 ft for a female. After Rob confirmed it was a barn owl I googled some facts on the Hawaiian ones to find that they were only introduced in 1958 to control rodents, but in fact eat more insects than rodents, so yet another man made failure to control nature!

Debra, thanks for the comment on the Great Grey owl, and yes your right they are pretty impressive in the wild. They actually grow to about the same size as a Bald Eagle. All the ones I have seen have been in Yellowstone, but they are also pretty common up in your area as well. Its amazing though with a bird that big how difficult they are to spot.

Like all of you, I love photography especially of nature. Although I have done a lot of deep sky astronomical imaging, I consider myself new at day photography. I am also a private pilot and enjoy the different perspective from above.

You will not see any of my work of deep sky astrophotography at 72dpi because that work is collaborated with my husband as he does all the hard work of acquiring the images and I do the image processing. To see that work, check out our personal website where it is showcased. www.ceravoloimages.com We do not sell our photography but just want to share it.
