As a frequent contributor and comment maker with excellent lens skills, I am confounded by your "ranking" in the photographer polls, as many above you don't lift more than their shutter finger. Just a thought....and haven't done so in years.

A bit about the bee and bloom shot. As an old film guy, I have a lot of "old" equipment and lenses from 35 mm and 2 1/4 large format equipment. There are adapters available to mount old film lenses to just about anything made now days. X-tubes(extension tubes ) are the poor man's macro lenses. Slap an on hand lens on one of the tubes and you have a macro. They come in varying MM and they determine the Macro you get. Since the adapters use old lenses, everything is done manually, so it takes play

In past years the wigeons were infrequent winter residents. Now, however, there are small flocks at several locations that appear to be well-adjusted to our conditions. We will have to wait and see if they can remain as the days become shorter. Incidentally, locals here were amazed by my picture of a flock of coots. One or maybe two have been spotted, but not a large flock. Heavy snow falling here and will change to heavy rain in a few hours. Things will be a mess for a few days.

Hi Laura, again thanks for the kind words. I think I'll be sticking with Facebook and I've started a site, more for the blogging, at paradisphotography.ca. I use 500px once in a while but that site is the opposite of this with too many people on it.

Laura....I am using a D300. Even with an excellent lens, I seldom go far above 400...asking for trouble with noise. Are you using a D7100? ...a much better camera in marginal conditions. My son is telling me to make the move because of at least two factors....much less noise at high ISO's and, just as important, much better automatic focus in low light situations. We will have sunlight tomorrow.

Thanks for commenting on East Stoney Creek and Mt Wilson. The shot of Mt wilson is actually taken from the side of hwy 93 just north of the junction with hwy 11. not that hwy 11 doesn't have some great views... Beautiful gallery you have here.
