Hello Tom, thanks for your comment on 'wild rose' but more over, I am glad you have visited.. If only we still had the 'blogue' where we could express our thoughts, frustrations, and praise the 'good things & people'... this being said, I have to say that I like your series of posts on 'Bodie Island' and the cows... :-) can't wait to see more of your work on this site..

As if the geo-political problems weren't enough, there seem to be some "board" problems on a few sites due to some rules/algorithm changes. I personally don't care what my "score" is but I do think it is rude for folks not to even lift a finger and express some "liking" or make a comment periodically. For my part, I shall vote and make comments. I'm not going to post pics for a while. I don't want my actions to be thought of as a personal plea for "votes". I post my pics. That's all. The End

Tom, thanks for stopping by and commenting. Your so kind. I struggle with the best of them to get an acceptable image. At times, frustration mounts and I wonder why I keep chasing these illusive images. But, seeing what others accomplish and the occasional comments on my work pulls me over the top of the next mountain and we move forward.

I agree with's a labor of love trying to stay current with everything...Anyway, I wish to thank you for your kind words on the "hotel' and especially the 'rock' pic. An image that evokes memories, especially youthful/childhood ones, are special to me as well. The sights and sounds ( and sometimes even the smells, tastes & tactile experiences) come flooding back. Distant memories suddenly seem "like yesterday" and leaves one wondering "has that much water gone under the bridge?"

Tom, sorry for taking so long to reply. Your recent comment on my Palouse Falls photo was very much appreciated. That really was such an unreal day. My imagination isn't strong enough to be able to make up what happened that day. I should have known, after jumping on the snake, that things were not going to be good. However, I got the CF card, so it wasn't all bad. I'm so glad that I found your gallery. It is simply stunning and I'm enjoying looking at it I use these types of galleries as a mot.

Jeff, I guess I need to get out more. I don't do airports as I was once confused with the Una Bomber in the San Francisco airport back in the 90s. I don't even think of trying since 9/11. I also see shoes discarded rather than shined but then I don't have to wear a suit in my profession....they even outlawed ties since they carry germs. It's a crazy world.
 Jeff Morley said:March 26th, 2012 (6:46pm) PDT
Tom, Re; shoe polish and shoe shines, there is a good supply of Kiwi polish, brushes, etc in every Target store, and there are numerous shoe shine stands in just about every airport. Phoenix, San Francisco, Denver, Montreal, Newark, LAX, Philly, etc all have a minimun of 4-6 shoe shine stands. No need to be nostalgic about the demise of the art of shined shoes in America!

Tom I just wanted to express my gratitude for your observation and appreciation. As we enter a new chapter I guess you could call it in the "Away from the crowd mentality", we find ourselves delving into new situations - not of the standard icon-issue image but rather those which move us away from the crowd. I too am guilty but now try to steer into new directions. Thanks again!

Your images (and the way you develop them) are really serene. They sort of have an aged emotion to them. Different than "normal" (whatever that means) landscapes.

 Michael D. Friedman said:February 26th, 2012 (5:26pm) PST
Hi Tom. I'm here too now. I agree that 500 is somewhat back to 'normal' but they've never budged on their rating system and, worse, never even acknowledged that the dislike was (is) being misused. The opportunity certainly exists for that here as well - let's hope it doesn't happen.
 Peter Baumgarten said:February 26th, 2012 (2:45pm) PST
Thanks a bunch for your comment on my 6 image. There are many things about this site I like, but their rating system needs some definite work. I still like 500px and have no intention of leaving - especially since the admin there is listening and attempting to correct some of the tragic changes they implemented. I believe they have learned from their mistake.

Like the bird on the wire and the drunk in the midnight choir.....I have tried in my way to be FREE! I shoot for the pure pleasure of it. I have learned mostly by looking at the work of others and trying to figure out why they chose that composition and later, the processing. There are so many ways to present a shot once you have captured it in the camera. Sometimes it is hard to choose what tells the story best....leave it as shot or reprocess it into something either fanciful or by altering the lighting, create a different mood than it was in "reality". There are discussions about "keeping it real" vs alternative processing. I leave that door wide open and rather than choosing a particular "signature" style, I try to adjust the photo to create a mood for that shot which is most works.:)
