My gratitude, Doug, for your recent visit & comment on the abstract pic. This technique has been in a few photo mags. Use a slow shutter speed, while simultaneously zooming the lens in/out or out/in. My success rate is pretty low & you need to tweak the potential image in processing. Some will polish & shine, others not. It's definitely trial & error but when the camera gods smile, I'm stoked. It's a fun thing you might want to try on a flower or plant, Dave.

Sorry to hear about your neck, Doug. Been there....still there...but better than she was. I was hoping to be more "communicative" while I'm on a break but the WiFi really sucks and I can barely get anything done on the I'm processing and then taking 20 minutes to upload one. I do appreciate your comments. I wish you well....apparently we have sailed similar seas...but I touched bottom once too often when I used to surf...then again...I didn't end up like Christopher Reeves! :)

Actually Doug, the camera does give you the option to do HDR with a single or multiple exposures. I used the single so perhaps the multiple works better and i spoke too soon. I just have not yet tried the other option yet.
 John Harrison said:April 17th, 2012 (4:23am) PDT
Hi Doug, the HDR on the d800 takes the pictures simultaneously, i think two: And it is useless, I did additional editing in Fusion Express using adaptive exposure to get the full effect. Honestly the iPhone does better HDR with the pro HDR camera app.

Hi Doug, re B&W v colour for street photography. It's sort of intuitive as to whether I pick one or the other (intuition doesn't always work) I'm of the opinion that if all street were in B&W then you would lose some of the vibrancy and colour that is a part of street life. Hope that makes sense.

I admire all kinds of photography, but I tend to gravitate toward macro and closeup themes. Water drops, flowers, and insects are my favorite subjects.

I got caught up in the digital photography revolution about 10 years ago and I've been shooting ever since. I am self taught and I'm constantly learning, reading, and trying to improve.
