Well congratulations on the new job! It's like you said in your profile, you are a Father, husband and THEN photographer. It's not surprising that you would devote all your energies into a new endeavor. The best of luck to you and we look forward to seeing you back more often. We miss your vision.

shooting from the hip. You have to tweak potential pics in post processing to see if there are any gems in there. I think you would have fun playing with it. Usually I've seen it applied to stationary objects like flowers, trees etc...moving objects (people) are a little more challenging. I'm hooked on the "Wow" factor when something actually emerges from the digital darkroom. You can shoot subjects from all angles coming/going. It's finding that nugget of gold from a ton of dirt !

Hey Jeff, my laptop was down for several days so I'm playing 'catchup' with my immense snaplist. Regarding your inquiry...this is a technique that I've seen described in some photo mags. It's pretty simple...you just use a slow shutter speed (1/4 to 1/10 maybe) while simultaneously manipulating the zoom. The best effect is rotating from out to in (far to close) which means twisting the lens counterclockwise. Success rate is pretty low, definitely trial & error especially when..contd...

I'm still acclimating to being back. 7 hours on the road yesterday and 3.5 hrs of "catch up" today at the office...and not the kind of "catch up" that you put on a Hot Dog.....I hope to get into the "project" by mid week, Jeff.

Yeah, Jeff, I love NY.....my daughter & her family live here & invite me out regularly to stay for a month at a time. (I'm retired) Every chance I get, I'm out & about roaming the city. The photo opportunities are endless & it's always an adventure. Just like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates 'you never know what you're gonna get'.

Jeff, I haven't seen a shoe shine stand in decades...but then I'm in the South and I don't do airports. Since I wear shoes that never seem to need polishing, I don't go into that part of the store. In the land of the blind.... :)
