This Horned Grebe is in a transitional phase between its winter and breeding plumage which can make it difficult to distinguish from the Eared Grebe. The easiest way is to look for the white tip at the end of the bill. Grebes feed on small fish, crayfish, aquatic insects and frogs amongst other things. A neat bird and I like the eye colour.
