(@KENBURROWS Hi Ken: No question it is a tough time for Mom. To make it worse it is mating season and the males will kill the cubs. It does get better for her during the summer, but as I have said, only 50% of cubs make it the first year and some scientists estimate as high as 63%...not good odds. Wonderful, wonderful, Jenny. Difficult enough with two cubs but to have to be on watch while she eats. My mind wanders but my goodness what are her nights like; trying to hide the cubs and protect.

Mom and her two cubs non-stop eat the sedge grass when they come out of the den at the end of April into May. She does not 'graze'.. it is more like 'grab and bite, chew and watch'. Her two cubs are close by.
