The back country of New Zealand is dotted with hundreds of huts similar to this one, but most do have at least one window to let in light. On the upside, this particular hut has a modern log burner for heating and cooking. These huts are regularly used by hunters, hikers, shepherds and farm workers. This one is on private property and therefore privately owned. But many are government owned and are there for public use. Some of the more modern huts have a small overnight charge (based on honesty) and that money goes toward helping maintenance costs.
