Beautiful image! It looks like you use the same decision making process that I do.

they way you describe your decision making sounds so familiar to me :)
the constant battle between the will to just go out and shoot something and the unwillingness to shoot that something in less than perfect conditions. the more we grow as photographers, and as our portfolio gets enriched by better images, we sometimes get cocky and spoiled and only wish to go out if the conditions are just as we imagine them in our next shot

and yet, time after time i prove myself wrong when i DO manage to convince myself and go to special places even in less that perfect condition. and sometimes i even get rewarded with an interesting albeit a less dramatic or an eye catching shot

Wow...never seen anything like it! Fly sounds appropriate, as it looks like a venus fly trap on steroids.

It's a geyser in Nevada called Fly Geyser. Ask Stephen, he knows! :o) Accidentally man made about 45 years ago.

Very cool Jared....but where/what is that?

Real funky shot, love it. Also love the story behind the shot. Sometimes it pays to throw the rule book out of the window and go with your gut feeling. Very well done.

Will the conditions be right?

Should I even go?

Check the weather… doesn't look great.

Satellite…radar… no change….

Where are the clouds!?

Should I even go?

It's so far.

Flickr research.

Check Google Earth.

Map the trip.

Is this crazy?

Maybe I'll just go to Tahoe…again.

No! I'm in Tahoe too much.

Maybe I should just stay here and watch a movie. NO!

How often are you this close to something so cool?!

Check the weather…damn it!

Satellite…radar… damn.

Should I even bother???

$&*! it, I'm going to Fly.

It's the leaps we take that that provide the best rewards. I hope you Fly somewhere soon.
