you had some great light for this one Paul, nicely captured....the zoo here in Cleveburg just got a group of these and they are definitely fun to watch

The meerkat (Suricata suricatta), is a small mammal belonging to the mongoose family. These cute little guys are commonly seen in South Africa.

I can sit and watch them for hours as they are constantly on the move, digging, jumping in and out of burrows, and so on. This little guy in particular was quite amusing--he appeared to be "the lookout", standing guard for almost 15 minutes before being relieved by another meerkat in the group. I'll post some more shots of him soon.
