I often wonder if man will ever know what actually happened to the Anasazi. Their dwellings certainly left wonderful monuments to their existence. Beautiful shot Stephen with awesome textures.
@stephenoachs replied: Thanks Jenny, yes I just love exploring the southwest and capturing what's left of the Anasazi. You're right, they vanished and it's quite a mystery as to why. Was in an external threat? In-fighting? In a large ruin, outside Cortez Colorado, they found human bones with evidence of cannibalism...yet the Pueblo and Hopi tribes, believed to be descendants of the Anasazi, refuse to believe that cannibalism was a possibility. Hard to say what happened but they left quite an impression in history.

An excellent capture. Great detail in the stone. I imagine it would have been is almost like the stones are talking...

Here's a small little Anasazi granary with one hell of a cool ceiling/surrounding. For a 15 foot wide area I spent 15 minutes shooting comps. This was my favorite but there were many other great one's to be had.

I just love this stuff...the sudden dissapearnace of the Anasazi people is such a mystery and every time I come across another remnant of their existence I try to imagine what life was like for them and how they lived and used these locations. In many ways, they built like wasps...creating living and storage areas out of natural resources and making the most of what mother nature had to offer. So amazing.
